Diabetes care for children and young people

The Paediatric Diabetes Team look after all children from 0-19 years old with a diagnosis of diabetes, be it Type 1, Type 2, Cystic Fibrosis related or rarer genetic types. The team is based over our three main hospital sites. The team consists of two Consultant Paediatricians, four Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses, a Dietician and two Clinical Psychologists, all of whom have specialist training in diabetes.

From diagnosis to 19 years of age, the team provide support and advice to children and young people with diabetes and their parents. There is a 24 hour on call service enabling children and their families to access expert advice when they need it.

The multidisciplinary team provides the child with diabetes a seamless service across both the acute hospital and community settings. The care is delivered in hospital, outpatient clinics, at home and in schools as appropriate to meet the needs of the child, young person and their family.
