Special Care Baby and Neonatal Units

Sometimes if a baby is born early, or is born with some health complications, they will be looked after in the Special Care Baby Unit at the South Lakes Birth Centre or the Neonatal Unit at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Both the special care baby unit and the neonatal unit have an open access policy for mums and parents which means that you are free to see your baby at any time. You will be supported in staying with your baby overnight for longer periods dependent on the availability of facilities.
