Based in Barrow and Kendal, our Community Respiratory Teams provide specialist care and advice to people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and other chronic lung diseases across South Cumbria.
All teams are multidisciplinary and consist of specialist nurses and specialist physiotherapists, some teams also include trained health coaches and occupational therapists, who provide care in people’s homes and other community settings. The teams also offer support and education toother therapeutic teams in reaching to the acute setting and supporting families/carers on how best to manage their condition and improve their quality of life.
All of the teams offer Pulmonary Rehabilitation which is one of the only treatments that can help people with chronic lung disease do more and become less breathless.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is one of the only treatments that can help people with chronic lung disease do more and become less breathless.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a twice weekly 6 week course for adults with COPD or another chronicn lung disease who struggle with breathlessness duting daily activity (e.g. walking or dressing).
During the course, specialist physiotherapist guide patients through individualised tailored exercises and the course is an opportunity for patients and their families to talk to professional and peers about their conditions.
