An online talk about the Lancashire and South Cumbria New Hospitals Programme will be hosted by University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT).
The talk for Foundation Trust Members will be held online via Microsoft Teams on Thursday 10 June at 6.30pm. Anyone who is interested in attending the talk and who is who not yet a Foundation Trust Member, can sign up easily online at: https://www.uhmb.nhs.uk/get-involved/our-membership.
Speakers will include Rebecca Malin, New Hospitals Programme Director and Louise Barker, New Hospitals Programme Communications Manager.
UHMBT, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTr) and the Government are currently working together on the Lancashire and South Cumbria New Hospitals Programme with the aim of building new, centrally funded hospital facilities locally.
The New Hospitals Programme aims to address inequalities and improve the health of communities across the region by creating brand new, world-class facilities for local people. New hospital designs will be led by expert input and evidence from doctors, nurses and other clinical staff to ensure the best possible levels of treatment and care for patients.
Rebecca Malin said: “This really is a once in a generation opportunity to transform our hospitals and the services we provide for local people. Decisions are yet to be made about the design or location of new hospital buildings and collaboration with local people will be a fundamental and hugely important part of the process.
“This talk is a great opportunity for us to talk to Foundation Trust Members about the programme and how we will be inviting local people, staff and stakeholders to input into the proposals, including a public consultation currently planned for spring 2022.”
UHMBT and LTHFT are working with clinical and support teams in other trusts and health organisations across Lancashire and South Cumbria to develop the proposals. These organisations include Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Primary Care, and Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (a partnership of NHS, local authority, public sector, voluntary, faith and social enterprise and academic organisations).
The programme will follow a clear process, with scrutiny and approvals needed from the NHS, the Government and local authorities. There will be a series of milestones to pass before funding is awarded and building can start. The aim is to complete the building of new hospital facilities by 2030.
