Mothers-to-be are invited to an open day at Helme Chase Maternity Unit at the Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal.

The open day will take place on Saturday, September 28, from 10am to 2pm and all are invited to pop in and bring a partner, relative or friend for coffee and cake.

Midwives from Helme Chase will be there on the day as well as support workers and health visitors to share information and lead tours of the unit.

Visitors can learn about a wide range of services including waterbirths, aromatherapy, safe and active births and hypnobirthing.

It will be an opportunity to chat with representatives from the Maternity Voices Partnership (MPV) and to meet mums who have used the services at Helme Chase.

Sharon Walker, Unit Manager of Helme Chase for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT), said: “This will be the third open day we have had for mothers-to-be, families and the local community.

“They will have the opportunity to look around the unit and facilities and meet some of the friendly midwives and support workers who work there.

“There will be representatives from the Positive Birth Group and the local Maternity Voice Partnership who are involved in supporting our mothers-to-be in their birth choices, obtaining feedback and helping to shape and develop our local maternity services.

“The lead midwife for safe and active births will be in attendance and will be offering aromatherapy hand massage and a chance to discuss birth choices in a relaxed and open environment.

“There will also be an opportunity to discuss infant feeding with a representative from the Health Visiting team.

“Recent open days have been well received and we look forward to meeting all who attend on the day.”
