Media statement on further COVID-19 deaths

Aaron Cummins, Chief Executive, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust said: "We can confirm that, sadly, a further six patients have died who tested positive for COVID19 while being treated at hospitals in the Trust.

“They were men aged 76 and 85 and a woman aged 84 who died at Furness General Hospital, and women aged 82 and 88 and a man aged 81 who died at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. All had underlying health conditions and died in the past few days.

"Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patients’ family and loved ones and we would ask that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."

The Trust, Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England and NHS Improvement will not be giving out any further information on these patients.

The media are asked to respect the wishes of the families, and the interests of staff at the hospital to avoid any disruption to operational services.
