Interim Director of Governance and Assurance appointed

Posted on: 23 December 2024

  • Delivering outstanding care and experience
  • Creating the best culture and conditions for colleagues

Dr Sarah Hauxwell has been appointed as the Trust’s Interim Director of Governance and Assurance.

You may remember that we held an external recruitment process in October for the role but for various reasons, did not appoint.

This role is extremely important as it is responsible for ensuring the delivery of our statutory regulations as well as contributing to evidence-based care, professional best standards and supporting an environment of openness, reflection and learning.

Given the scale of the transformation required of the Trust and the increased financial scrutiny, we have taken the decision to appoint to the role on an interim basis before going back out to external recruitment later in 2025.

Sarah has had several leadership roles in the organisation including lead cancer clinician, Clinical Director for Core Clinical Services, SRO for the COVID vaccination Programme and Associate Medical Director for the Recovery Support Programme.

In these roles Sarah has been involved in:

  • The development and delivery of corporate and clinical governance, including committee structures and organisational policies.

  • Compliance with regional and national requirements around both the vaccination programme and the transition out of the recovery support programme

The Director of Governance and Assurance is a newly created role following a reorganisation and realignment of the clinical and corporate governance structures, and the subsequent changes to the existing Director of Governance and Company Secretary roles. Overall accountability for Quality and Safety remains with the  Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Medical Officer.

As the new Interim Director of Governance and Assurance, Sarah will be a member of the Trust Board and Executive team and have responsibility for providing professional support to Care Group triumvirate teams and the performance management of all governance activities across the Trust - ensuring that professional, regulatory and governance procedures are complied with.

I’m sure you will all join me in wishing Sarah all the best in her new role.
