The next stage of our work programme implementing the Trust Clinical Strategy will be events taking place on Wednesday 2 October.
The work will look at current services within elective orthopaedics and elective gynaecology to see if there are improvements or changes that could be made to make the services run better by identifying any gaps and seeking to redress them.
The events will invite clinical teams involved in the services from across all disciplines, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, other clinical professions, and corporate services, as well as representatives from Healthwatch and the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board to come together to work collaboratively.
This is part of the work to consider whether some of our services are provided in the right way to meet the needs of our communities, now and into the future. This is because:
-
It has become increasingly difficult to recruit to some roles within the Trust. We, therefore, need to review the way we provide those services without impacting on the outcomes for our patients.
-
Different communities can get very different outcomes in life, including health inequalities. It is often those in the most vulnerable communities that struggle to access good care, and people are waiting too long. We need to address that in Morecambe Bay.
-
We simply cannot afford to run the services we are currently providing in the way we currently do. NHS financial resources are finite, and we need to learn to do more with what we have by working more efficiently, reducing duplication and using technology to support our clinical pathways. Getting this right will also improve our wellbeing as people delivering this care.
-
Our services can be designed to deliver better outcomes if we collaborate more closely with each other, our communities and our partner Trusts.
-
Wanting to create a great place to work gives us a chance to look at where and how services are delivered for our staff as well as our patients.
-
Ultimately, delivering our Clinical Strategy is the way we become a consistently successful organisation, achieving our vision of creating a great place to be cared for and a great place to work whilst accomplishing sustainable workforce and finances.
We will work with our partners within the Integrated Care Board who are looking at similar work on the wider footprint.
After this event, a further event will be held on 16 October to establish what could be the best model of care to provide for patients. Patient feedback is also being sought and if you would like to get involved, please contact improvement.redesign@mbht.nhs.uk.
