Media release issued on behalf of Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board

There is never a bad time to get your COVID-19 vaccine, and in Morecambe Bay there are a number of options available.

Pop-up clinics across South Cumbria and North Lancashire have been very popular with people seeking to receive their next jab since the latest autumn booster programme began last month.

While the take-up has been extremely encouraging, health chiefs want to remind people of the various ways you can get your vaccine.

Jane Scattergood, lead for the COVID-19 vaccination programme in Lancashire and South Cumbria, said: “More than 170,000 people in Lancashire and South Cumbria have already come forward for their COVID-19 autumn booster jab, which is great news.

“Because of the incredible demand we’ve had so far, there have been occasions where long queues have formed at some pop-up vaccination sites. We’re mindful that the weather is getting colder and queueing is no fun! So, please also think about the other ways to get your next dose once you are eligible.

“Booking an appointment through the National Booking System is still the best way to find out where you can get a vaccine closest to your home, and appointments are regularly being made available and includes GP practices and local pharmacies. Once all open appointments are full the venue disappears form the national system and it looks like there are limited local sites, it only shows available appointments; but we are adding slots all the time so do come back and check again as you will find new slots in a convenient location.

“There is also our vaccine at home service, which allows people who have mobility issues or don’t feel comfortable using the existing services to have someone from the vaccine programme outreach team visit and administer the jab. This is available on request and we hope it is particularly helpful for citizens who are cared for by family or informal carers.

“Of course, pop-up clinics are still convenient for people and will still happen in local areas regularly.

“Whenever and wherever you attend for vaccine, please don’t come along if you have Covid symptoms and that you have waited the required amount of time since you last tested positive. This is important for your immunity.”

Adults can have the vaccine 28 days after a positive test for COVID-19 or 28 days after symptoms started, whichever is earlier.
