Having your baby during planned strike action

Posted on: 21 December 2022

Our maternity services at UHMBT are open during the planned ambulance strike action on 21 December. Ambulances will not be available to transfer patients to hospital or to other hospitals unless it is a life-threatening emergency. Therefore, we have taken the decision to temporarily suspend Home Birth service and the birth service at Helme Chase, for the duration of the strike and its impact.

Please note although Ambulances will respond to life threatening emergencies, the response may be delayed. Patients will need to consider and plan ahead in how they will get to hospital, if in labour or need care that is non-life threatening.

Please continue to attend your GP and hospital appointments unless you are contacted and told otherwise.

Where the situation is not life-threatening, alternative support will be available through NHS111 online or through NHS 111, and where possible, it is advised that you arrange alternative transport.

For more information on when to call 999 and when to go to A&E, you can visit the NHS website.

For any queries, please contact our local maternity team who will be able to advise you over the phone.
