Hand cream donation provides a boost to Covid vaccination teams in Lancaster and Barrow

2 February 2021

Covid vaccination teams at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust hospitals in Lancaster and Barrow have been boosted by a massive donation of hand cream from a UK toiletries company.

Childs Farm donated 7,000 tubes of its Farmologie hand cream to the Trust’s staff through the Bay Hospitals Charity.

The donation has been gratefully received by staff at the Trust’s vaccination clinics at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital.

Occupational Health Sister Heather Eastwood said: “Our vaccinators, like all our nurses and healthcare workers at the moment are having to wash their hands probably in excess of 100 times a day, which as you can imagine takes a great toll on our skin, so we are really grateful for the donation we have had from Child’s Farm. We are all making really good use of it.”

Childs Farm made the donation to thank staff for their hard work throughout the pandemic.

Joanna Jensen, founder and executive chairman of Childs Farm, said: “At the start of the pandemic, we saw a huge number of businesses step up for their community and thank our healthcare workers for their tireless work.

“While this health crisis worsens through the winter, the business community must keep up this momentum.

“As a skincare company, we are proud to help in the way we know best – by ensuring our amazing healthcare workers are keeping themselves safe and healthy during such a busy time.”

Bay Hospitals Charity funds the latest equipment for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust to help make patients more comfortable and ensure they get the best possible care and treatment.

Sue Smith OBE, Executive Chief Nurse and Deputy Chief Executive, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It means so much to our dedicated and hard-working staff to know that their efforts throughout this pandemic have been and continue to be appreciated.

“This generous donation to our staff through Bay Hospitals Charity has given a massive boost to our vaccination teams as they work so hard to protect our community and our colleagues.”
