Since establishing in 2015 the disability staff network has gone from strength to strength, helping to challenge attitudes and increase understanding of disability in the workplace. The aim of our network is to remove barriers, giving people with differing abilities, and those with long term health conditions the opportunities to fulfil their potential.
UHMBT has been recognised as a disability confident employer, which means that we will:
*provide a fully inclusive and acces…sible recruitment process
*ensure there are no barriers to the development and progression of disabled colleagues
*provide an environment that is inclusive and accessible for colleagues and service users.
Two of our priorities this year are the Workforce Disability Equality Standard (WDES), a data-based standard that uses a series of measures to help improve the experiences of colleagues, and working towards achieving Disability Leader status.
We were delighted to be invited to share our story at the Disability Summit 2019 in London on the 30 April. As part of our presentation we made a short film highlighting some of the great things the network has achieved and the impact this has had on colleagues and service users.
The film was also showcased today as part of the Inclusion and Diversity Conference ‘Levelling the playing field’ at Lancaster University.
