TWomens unit, Royal Lancaster Infirmary.jpghe Children’s Ward at Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) will temporarily move from Ward 32 in the Centenary Building to Ward 16 on the first floor of the Women’s Unit to help manage the COVID-19 pandemic.

The move will take place on the afternoon of Saturday 4 April to help University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) to make the best use of its estates, creating more capacity for patients with COVID-19.

Estates work has been carried out on Ward 16 to ensure all services on the Children’s Ward can run as normal.

Restrictions on visiting will continue as one parent per child.

Sue Smith, OBE, Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Chief Nurse, UHMBT, said: “The Children's Ward was specially-designed for treating all patients with possible respiratory problems therefore, we are arranging for all children to be temporarily moved to a different building to make way for COVID patients.

“In order for the Trust to meet the requirements of national guidelines on COVID-19, improve patient safety and make best use of our estates, several wards are being created and moved.

“We have taken all precautions to ensure a smooth and safe transfer and ask for your support and understanding at this time.”

The Women’s Unit can be found to the right of the Centenary Building with the entrance being located behind Lloyd’s Pharmacy.

Staff on the Children’s Ward will be able to discuss any questions parents, guardians and carers may have.
