Baby H’s Clubfoot Journey
Our experience with our son H's bilateral talipes treatment has been excellent, thanks to the outstanding care and support provided by the medical team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. From our initial meeting prior to H's birth, Gemma and Emily have been incredibly helpful with their communication and compassionate approach, especially considering that both mum and I had never faced such a situation before, along with the stress and worries that accompanied it.
After H was born, we met with Emily at Furness General Hospital, who reviewed H's feet and explained each step of the treatment process. This was very reassuring for us regarding H’s upcoming treatment plan. The first stage involved weekly casting sessions conducted by Gemma and Emily at Lancaster Hospital. Both Gemma and Emily ensured that H was comfortable, and the progress we saw with his little feet each week was amazing. We also had time to bath H and weigh him. Missing these moments at home made us especially grateful for the opportunity to share these special times with our newborn during our visits.
Anna, the consultant, played a crucial role in the next stage by performing H’s tenotomy. Her expertise made this procedure straightforward for both H and us as parents. Following the casting phase, H transitioned to wearing boots and bars for 23 hours a day. This boots and bars phase was new to us, but with the constant guidance and support from Gemma and Emily, we managed it effectively, despite H’s attempts to wriggle free!
Throughout the entire process, Gemma and Emily have been available for contact at all hours for any questions or concerns we had, which was particularly comforting for both of us, knowing we had round-the-clock support. Overall, the combined efforts of Gemma, Emily, and Anna have made a significant difference in H’s journey. Their commitment to H’s well-being and their exceptional care have been incredible, and we are thrilled with the progress of his feet.
We are immensely grateful for their support.
